Dragonflies Playroom – 4 to 5 years
The Dragonflies room follows on from Ladybirds offering the children more complex activities and planning, structure is more pronounced to help with the transition from Nursery to School.
Stimulating activities are still planned to encourage understanding through logic, reasoning and free thought which further develops social, emotional, physical and intellectual skills within each child’s ability. Each child’s foundation stage profile is closely followed throughout the day and planned for accordingly.
At meal times in Dragonflies children are given much more independence by allowing them to choose what they wish to eat but with staff members actively encouraging them to try new foods. The children also carry their own plate and cutlery to the tables and help themselves to fresh drinking water.
Activities such as the weather board, group time, registration, stories and singing are always offered as a group and the children are free to choose whether they wish to participate or not.
I.C.T equipment is much more evident in the Dragonflies room allowing the children to explore and interact with one another and the nursery environment in depth.
Writing skills are encouraged in Dragonflies but only if your child shows an interest, no child will be forced to do something they do not wish to do.
Dragonflies hopes to give your child the best possible start to their school life making the move to reception a fluent and happy occasion for both child and parent.
